Spay and Neuter

Though routine, spay (ovariohysterectomy) and neuter (orchiectomy) are major surgeries for your pet.  Therefore, these procedures are taken seriously by the staff and doctors at our practice.  We analyze preanesthetic blood chemistry and an ECG for every pet.  We use modern anesthesia and monitor all pets throughout their operation.  Because pain relief is important to us, all surgeries are performed with the CO2 laser and all pets receive injectable and oral pain relief.  Our policy is to provide the same level of care to your pet as we would provide to our own animals.

We recommend spaying (female) dogs at 6 months of age.  It is particularly important to spay before the female dog has an estrus or "heat" cycle.  Solid research indicates a dramatic reduction in mammary cancer in female dogs that are spayed before they have an estrus cycle.

We recommend neutering male dogs at 6 months of age as well.
